Seodaemun-gu said it conducted on-site inspections of major disaster-vulnerable areas across the district on July 10 to head off the risk of disasters caused by sudden heavy downpours ahead of the full rainy season.
The inspections were carried out to directly assess areas at high risk of flooding during summer torrential rains and typhoons, review the status of safety measures in place, and take preemptive action against potential hazards.
District Mayor Park Un-gi visited the Yeonhui District 1 redevelopment construction site that day and directed relevant departments to manage the site rigorously — preventing soil runoff around the construction area during heavy rain and ensuring not a single safety accident occurs.
Park then personally checked the operational status of the "river disaster response system" along the Hongjecheon area, which includes river access barriers, broadcast speakers and surveillance CCTV cameras, and closely verified whether the equipment would function properly in an emergency.
"Thorough advance inspections and preemptive prevention are the best measures to stop casualties from localized heavy rain," Park said. "We will do everything possible to protect residents' safety by strengthening monitoring activities in disaster-vulnerable areas and maintaining tight, round-the-clock disaster preparedness."
