Comedian Park Se-mi has revealed that a former boyfriend fabricated a lie to break up with her.
Park appeared on the SBS variety show My Little Old Boy, which aired Sunday, and opened up about her past relationships.
"I think he really wanted to break up with me," she said. "One day he called me drunk out of nowhere and told me he had stomach cancer — as if he'd been given a terminal diagnosis — and used it to end things."
The story turned out to be a lie he had invented to end the relationship.
"I hear he has a child now and is doing very well," Park added with a wry smile.
Park also shared a story involving a different ex-boyfriend, to whom she had given 600,000 won ($398) a month — money he used to travel abroad with another woman he was seeing behind her back.
"I was in my early 20s and he asked me for the money I earned from part-time work, so I gave it to him," she said. "It was around 500,000 to 600,000 won a month. I later found out he had used it to go on overseas trips with a woman he was cheating on me with."
Park added that at the time she had no idea anything was wrong. "Back then I was young and naive — I thought your phone just didn't work in Southeast Asia, so I would wait without hearing from him," she said.
Park said she dated the man for about three years and also revealed the moment she discovered the infidelity.
"We were at a PC bang together, and big glasses were trendy at the time," she said. "He tilted his phone slightly to use it, and I could see a red heart notification reflected perfectly in his glasses lens."
"I thought I would scream and get angry if I ever caught someone cheating, but when I grabbed his phone my hand was trembling from the sense of betrayal," she recalled.
Park added that she forgave him and got back together with him two years later.
