Anyang wins top prize at Gyeonggi Province's CCTV crime-prevention contest

Anyang won the top prize at the "2026 Crime-Prevention CCTV Best Practices Competition" organized by Gyeonggi Province, the city announced Monday.

The competition was designed to identify and share outstanding achievements by cities and counties in the crime-prevention CCTV sector.

Anyang advanced to the final round alongside Icheon and Dongducheon after an initial written review, then claimed first place at an on-site presentation held Tuesday and Wednesday at Hotel Pureumir Topaz Hall in Hwaseong.

Anyang's standout entry was its AI- and multi-cognitive-technology-based service for tracking the movements of missing persons and coordinating their rescue.

Previously, when a child or an elderly person with dementia went missing, officers had to manually review vast amounts of CCTV footage, raising the risk of missing the critical window — the so-called golden time — for a successful rescue.

Under the system Anyang introduced, officers enter a photo or a description of the missing person's clothing, and AI analyzes CCTV feeds across the city in real time. Locating the person among footage from thousands of cameras takes only seconds.

Judges particularly praised the city's advanced multi-cognitive technology, which predicts and tracks a missing person's route, as well as the efficient monitoring operations of its Smart City Integrated Control Center.

The city also runs a cooperative framework that instantly shares AI-analyzed location data and movement routes with relevant agencies, including police and fire departments.

"This is the hard-earned result of every city employee's effort to harness cutting-edge technology to protect the lives and safety of our residents," Mayor Choi Dae-ho said. "We will continue to advance our smart monitoring technology and integrated data-control capabilities to make Anyang an even safer city."
