Yeongdeungpo-gu is accepting nominations for the 33rd Yeongdeungpo-gu Citizen Award through July 28, the district office said, in a bid to recognize unsung contributors who have dedicated themselves to community development and resident unity.
Now in its 33rd year, the Yeongdeungpo-gu Citizen Award is the district's most prestigious honor, recognizing residents who have quietly served their neighbors across all corners of the community.
The award covers nine categories — the Exemplary Parent Award, Filial Piety Award, Volunteer Service Award, Sports Award, Culture and Arts Award, Education Award, Environment Award, Community Contribution Award and Welfare Award — with up to two recipients to be selected in each category.
To be eligible, candidates must have lived in Yeongdeungpo-gu for at least three years as of the award ceremony in September, or be the representative or member of a company or organization based in the district. Anyone who has made an exemplary contribution to community development through dedicated service in their field may be nominated. However, residents who received the Citizen Award within the past three years are excluded from nomination to give more residents an opportunity.
Nominations may be submitted by heads of relevant institutions, organizations or schools in each category, and joint nominations signed by 30 or more residents are also accepted.
Nomination forms and merit statements are available for download from the district office website's public notices board. Completed submissions may be delivered in person to the district office's autonomous administration division, the candidate's local community center, or sent by mail. The nomination deadline is July 28.
The district will verify the merits of all nominees and conduct a review by a merit screening committee before selecting final recipients. The awards will be presented at the Yeongdeungpo Residents' Day ceremony in September, where recipients will receive a commemorative plaque.
Yeongdeungpo-gu District Mayor Cho Yun-jin said the Citizen Award is "a meaningful honor that expresses gratitude to residents who have quietly devoted themselves to the community," and asked for residents' attention and active participation in nominating the proud neighbors around them.
