Geumcheon-gu announced it has been named an outstanding institution in the Ministry of Interior and Safety's 2026 Disaster Management Evaluation.
The Disaster Management Evaluation is a national comprehensive assessment conducted by the Ministry of Interior and Safety, covering 340 disaster management agencies nationwide — including central government ministries, local governments and public institutions — and evaluating their capabilities across the full cycle of disaster prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.
This year's evaluation, based on last year's performance, assessed six fields, 17 competency categories and 38 indicators.
The district earned high marks across disaster management as a whole, covering disaster safety budgets and disaster management fund administration, crisis management manuals and disaster management resource administration, disaster preparedness drills and crisis management, and disaster recovery project management.
The district had also been named an outstanding institution last year in the Ministry of Interior and Safety's Safe Korea Disaster Response Drill.
The Safe Korea Disaster Response Drill is a joint annual exercise involving local governments, related agencies and the private sector, held to prepare for various types of disasters with the goals of strengthening disaster management capabilities and building a cooperative framework among responsible agencies. Geumcheon-gu has been recognized as an outstanding institution for three consecutive years since 2023.
District Mayor Choi Gi-chan said the recognition was "the result of every staff member working together with residents' safety as the top priority."
Choi added that the district would "build a tight-knit disaster safety management system capable of proactively responding to all manner of unpredictable disasters," and pledged to make Geumcheon-gu "a safe city where all residents can live with peace of mind."
