Dongjak-gu, led by District Mayor Ryu Sam-young, launched the "2026 Hope Summer Sharing Campaign" to promote a culture of giving and support residents vulnerable to extreme heat.
The campaign is a summer fundraising drive whose name plays on the Korean word "chak" — meaning "good" — to convey the spirit of becoming a good neighbor through good-hearted giving and getting through the sweltering summer together.
Co-organized by the Seoul branch of the Community Chest of Korea and the Dongjak Welfare Foundation, the launch ceremony was held Monday at the grand hall on the fourth floor of the Dongjak-gu Office. Attendees included District Mayor Ryu, the chair of the Dongjak Welfare Foundation, the head of the Dongjak Volunteer Center, and the team leader of the Seoul Community Chest of Korea.
The first part of the event opened with a formal ceremony, followed by the handover of project funds and donations, remarks from guests of honor, and a commemorative photo session.
In the second part, District Mayor Ryu and volunteers assembled summer heat-relief packages. Each package — valued at 100,000 won ($66) and containing items such as an electric fan, a summer blanket, samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), sunscreen and a cooling scarf — will be delivered to 455 low-income households in the district.
The district expects the funds and goods raised through the campaign to reach those who need them most, providing meaningful help to neighbors getting through the summer.
Meanwhile, the district has continued a range of sharing initiatives to spread warmth throughout the community — running the Hope Summer Sharing Campaign in summer and the "Hope Ondol Warm Winter" fundraiser in winter.
"I hope this campaign serves as a solid support for neighbors in need and as an opportunity to again confirm the warm heart of our community," District Mayor Ryu said. "We will continue to pay close attention to ensuring that care reaches the right people at the right time."
