Gangdong-gu in Seoul has launched a youth night running program called the Active Challenge Running Crew, the district office announced Tuesday.
The program runs in two cohorts. The first, which began June 29, runs through July 23 every Monday and Thursday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The second cohort runs Aug. 24 through Oct. 19, every Monday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Each cohort holds eight sessions, for a total of 16.
Sessions take place along Gwangnaru Han River Park and the Godeokcheon walking trail. Participants learn proper running form, breathing techniques, and warm-up and cool-down routines under the guidance of a professional instructor. The program is open to Gangdong-gu residents and workers employed within the district between the ages of 19 and 39. Each cohort accepts 30 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
Beyond the running program, the district operates a range of community sports programs — including a women's soccer class and a youth futsal class — to give residents easy access to physical activity close to home.
