Ji Yeon-soo says she's working at a beef-bone soup restaurant to make ends meet as her mother battles cancer

Broadcaster Ji Yeon-soo has said her mother is undergoing treatment for cancer.

A video titled "Ji Yeon-soo's First Home After Going It Alone" was posted to her YouTube channel on July 6.

Ji's home is a two-story unit of about 50 square meters, with a living room and kitchen on the first floor and a combined bedroom-study and small sitting area on the second. "Guests who come over ask how all the staff could possibly fit in such a small place," she said. "But I find it comfortable and I love it."

She said she left Jeju Island and moved back to be close to her mother. "My mom got sick — she was diagnosed with cancer, and I wanted to live near her, so I wrapped everything up and came back as quickly as I could," Ji said.

She also said she is working part-time at a beef-bone soup restaurant to support herself. "I prefer places that are busy at lunch, so I go in the morning," she said. "After work, in the afternoon, I take care of Minsu," referring to her son.

On the prospect of returning to broadcasting, Ji said she had received many offers after appearing on "We Got Divorced" and acknowledged the money alone would make it worth doing. "But I didn't want to," she said. "I went on that show without Minsu's permission, so I'm thinking I'll go back on TV when he's older and says he wants to see me on it himself." The remark reflected her attachment to her son.

Ji married Eli, a singer and former member of U-KISS, in 2014. The couple welcomed a son in 2016 but divorced in 2020.
