National Baekdudaegan Arboretum to unveil Siberian tiger 'Miryeong' for first time

Miryeong, a Siberian tiger, will be unveiled to the public on July 25.

The National Baekdudaegan Arboretum said Tuesday the event is being organized ahead of International Tiger Day on July 29 to raise awareness of the ecological value and conservation importance of the Siberian tiger, an endangered species.

Miryeong had been living at Daejeon O'World before being transferred to the arboretum in October last year.

Visitors will also be able to watch a video documenting Miryeong's adaptation to the Tiger Forest and her training sessions.

Meanwhile, a commemorative seminar themed "Siberian Tigers, Forests and Us" will be held at the main auditorium of the arboretum's visitor center.

Registration for the seminar is available through the Baekdudaegan Arboretum website.

"We hope Miryeong's public debut will give more people a chance to appreciate the importance of tiger conservation," arboretum director Lee Gyu-myeong said.
