Geumcheon-gu is accepting applications for its 2026 school enrollment support project for district students entering elementary, middle, or high schools located outside Seoul.
The district had previously provided enrollment grants only to Geumcheon-gu students attending schools within Seoul, leaving those enrolled in schools in other cities or provinces without support. The expanded program ensures that all incoming students registered in the district benefit equally from education welfare, regardless of where their school is located.
Eligible students will receive a Zeropay mobile gift voucher — 200,000 won ($133) for elementary school students and 300,000 won for middle and high school students.
The vouchers can be used to purchase essential school supplies such as uniforms, gym clothes and textbooks.
To qualify, applicants must be enrolled as a 2026 incoming student at an elementary, middle, or high school outside Seoul, and must be either a Korean national with resident registration in Geumcheon-gu or a foreign national with Geumcheon-gu listed as their place of stay as of the application date. However, students who have already received a grant of the same nature from another local government or education office are not eligible for duplicate support.
Applicants can download the application form from the "Geumcheon News" section of the Geumcheon-gu website, complete it and submit it by email, visit the district's education support division in person, or apply online through the Government24 portal.
The application period runs through Sept. 4. The district will verify eligibility — including residency registration and whether applicants have received similar support elsewhere — before disbursing the grants in October.
The district said it has been independently developing and running school enrollment support plans since 2022, with the goal of closing gaps in education welfare and easing the financial burden on families of incoming students.
"This project is a policy we put in place so that no student living in our district is left out of support simply because they attend a school in another area," said Geumcheon-gu District Mayor Choi Gi-chan. "We will continue to strengthen the public nature of education and expand tailored education welfare so that every student can benefit."
