Seonnam-myeon saemaul association shares samgyetang to mark start of summer heat

The Seonnam-myeon saemaul association in Seongju-gun, North Gyeongsang Province, held a "samgyetang sharing" event Monday at the Seonnam-myeon welfare center, with more than 30 association members taking part.

The event was organized to mark Chobok — the first of the three hottest periods in the traditional lunar calendar — and to express gratitude to those who have dedicated themselves to the community, including presidents and secretaries of senior centers in each village, officers of the Seonnam Senior Citizens Association branch, and village heads working on the front lines of local administration.

"We boiled the samgyetang with care from early in the morning, as if serving our own parents," said Yu Cha-sun, head of the women's association. "It may be just a simple meal, but I hope the elders and village heads enjoy it and stay healthy through the summer heat."
