Police have referred two former presidential office aides to prosecutors on charges of wiping multiple computers at former President Yoon Suk Yeol's official residence — Yoon Jae-soon, former chief administrative secretary, and Kang Eui-gu, former head of the first attaché office.
The Korean National Police Agency's special investigation unit handling cases transferred from the third special prosecutor's office announced Tuesday that it had sent both Yoon and Kang to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office without detention.
According to the unit, the two are suspected of ordering presidential office administrators in mid-December 2024 to remove eight computers from Yoon's residence without authorization and wipe them, destroying evidence related to the former president's declaration of emergency martial law on Dec. 3.
The unit also said it had completed a supplementary investigation requested by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in March in connection with a separate case involving former presidential chief of staff Jeong Jin-seok, who is accused of ordering the wiping of presidential office computers, and forwarded those findings as well.
Jeong was referred on charges including destruction of official electronic records and abuse of authority.
Meanwhile, the unit has been continuing its work on cases that the insurrection special prosecutor and other investigators were unable to conclude within their investigation periods, having received those cases in December last year.
