Hanjin said Tuesday that a subcontractor worker found collapsed at its Dong Seoul Hub in Jangji-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, died while receiving treatment.
In a regulatory filing on DART, the Financial Supervisory Service's disclosure system, Hanjin said "an employee of a subcontractor handling cargo operations was found collapsed, was transported unconscious by emergency services, and died during treatment."
The cause of death has not been determined. Hanjin said police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor plan to visit the scene and investigate the details. "Whether the incident constitutes a serious disaster under the Occupational Safety and Health Act is unclear as of the disclosure date, and a corrective filing will be made if circumstances change based on the findings of the relevant authorities," the company added.
Hanjin went on to say it "offers its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prays for the repose of the deceased." The company said operations at the site have been suspended, that it is working to determine the full details of the situation, that it will take any necessary follow-up measures, and that it will cooperate fully with the investigation by the relevant authorities.
