Strong rain accompanied by gusts will hit the country Wednesday, with very heavy, thunderstorm-driven downpours centered on the central regions and the Jeolla provinces forecast from Tuesday night through early Wednesday morning.
Expected rainfall totals are 30–100 millimeters for Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi Province and the five West Sea islands; 30–80 mm for inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province; 5–40 mm along the Gangwon east coast; 30–80 mm for Daejeon, Sejong, South Chungcheong Province and North Chungcheong Province; 30–80 mm for North Jeolla Province; 20–60 mm for Gwangju and South Jeolla Province; 5–40 mm for Daegu, North Gyeongsang Province, Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province; and 5–40 mm for Jeju Island.
Morning lows are forecast at 23–27 degrees Celsius and afternoon highs at 27–37 C. The humid, sweltering conditions will push the apparent temperature to around 33 C. Heat advisories are expected to be lifted gradually in some areas as rain moves in.
Seas will run very high across most maritime zones, and swell-driven waves are expected to crash forcefully onto beaches or wash over rocky shores and breakwaters along the coasts of Jeju Island, South Jeolla Province and South Gyeongsang Province.
Wave heights are forecast at 1.0–3.0 meters in the near East Sea and 0.5–3.0 meters in the near West and South seas. In the outer offshore zones — roughly within 200 kilometers of the coastline — swells are expected to reach 1.5–4.0 meters in the East Sea and 1.0–3.5 meters in the West and South seas.
