Geumcheon-gu has transformed the flower bed area in front of the Gasan Doosan We've apartment — a high-traffic corridor — into a specialty healing garden, district mayor Choi Gi-chan announced.
The project aimed to expand green space in underused urban pockets, improve the pedestrian environment and provide residents with a more refined streetscape.
The district fully renovated what had been a dull, neglected flower bed, planting a layered mix of trees and flowering plants to create a space with a distinct character in every season.
The project gained added impact as repairs to the apartment's perimeter wall were carried out at the same time. The district provided city-funded subsidies to support renovation of the aging wall.
Officials expect the newly created specialty garden to become more than a stretch of pavement people pass through — a lifestyle-oriented space where residents can find a moment of calm in their daily routines.
"Through this specialty garden, we not only expanded green space but also provided timely support for the adjacent aging wall repairs, securing both visual beauty and pedestrian comfort at once," district mayor Choi said. "We will continue to expand efforts to create walkable streets throughout the urban areas our residents frequent."
