Cosmecca Korea, a cosmetics ODM company, is embarking on the development of anti-aging cosmetics ingredients based on circadian rhythm science.
The company said Wednesday it has signed a research agreement with cosmetics materials firm Ravio and a research team led by Hwang Jae-sung, a genetics professor at Kyung Hee University.
The three parties will form a consortium to jointly carry out the full development cycle — from efficacy research and ingredient development through to commercialization. The goal is to develop neurocosmetic ingredients that go beyond simple wrinkle reduction, targeting the restoration of circadian rhythms disrupted by sleep deprivation and chronic stress while reviving the skin's natural energy. Hwang is a specialist in anti-aging research.
The research team will focus on promoting the normal expression of circadian rhythm genes and activating mitochondrial function, which drives cellular energy metabolism. At the same time, the team plans to identify ingredients that contribute to the overall recovery of cellular function, including strengthening a compromised skin barrier. Candidate compounds will then be screened through safety evaluations and formulation studies before advancing toward commercial cosmetics applications.
"As sleep deprivation and stress become part of daily life, the neurocosmetics field — focused on restoring circadian rhythms — is drawing growing attention," a Cosmecca Korea official said. "We will secure differentiated, high-performance ingredients and propose them to customers as finished products."
