Organoid Sciences is set to jointly develop an intestinal organoid regenerative therapy with a Japanese university.
The company said Wednesday it had been selected for a government research and development project in the national strategic technology sector, under which it will pursue the collaboration.
The joint research will be conducted with the team of professor Ryuichi Okamoto at the Institute of Science Tokyo. The team is regarded as a leader in intestinal organoid regenerative therapy, with recognized expertise in foundational technology and clinical research. Organoid Sciences will provide support in GMP manufacturing technology and clinical development. The two institutions plan to advance not only the development of an intestinal organoid regenerative therapy but also production technology, clinical translation and the expansion of new indications.
The project aims to advance the regenerative therapy platform by building on Organoid Sciences' intestinal organoid regenerative therapy candidate ATORM-C, which is currently in clinical development. The company plans to refine its intestinal organoid technology and expand indications to cover a broader range of intestinal diseases, drawing on research outcomes from the project.
"This selection for a national strategic technology project marks a turning point in connecting the world-class intestinal organoid technologies held by Korea and Japan to actual therapy development and commercialization," the company said.
