The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will award special performance bonuses to nine civil servants who achieved notable policy results, including sparking a public debate on lowering the criminal age of juvenile offenders.
The ministry announced Monday it will hold its "Second Special Performance Bonus Ceremony" and distribute a total of 11 million won ($7,490) among nine civil servants across three policy areas: the public debate on adjusting the age threshold for juveniles under criminal age, improvements to health screenings for out-of-school youth and support for college entrance exam mock-test fees, and a streamlined application process for the youth menstrual product voucher program.
The special performance bonus system was established to reward civil servants who deliver policy outcomes that citizens can tangibly feel, fostering a results-oriented public service culture.
The ministry first awarded the bonuses in April, making this the second round. Awards range from 1 million won to 8 million won per project, with individual payouts varying from 300,000 won to 2.4 million won based on each recipient's contribution.
The three divisions selected for this round are the ministry's Youth Independence Support Division, the Out-of-School Youth Support Division and the Youth Policy Division.
Minister Won Min-kyung said the results reflect "the outcome of boldly bringing policy issues that create tangible change in people's lives into public discourse," adding that the ministry "will continue to do its utmost to lead the way in addressing the defining challenge of our time — gender equality."
