KT&G, Korea Forest Service and AFoCO sign MOU to restore wildfire-damaged forests

KT&G said it signed an MOU with the Korea Forest Service and AFoCO (Asian Forest Cooperation Organization) on Friday.

Under the agreement, KT&G plans to plant tree species suited to local ecosystems and restore vegetation in state- and publicly owned forests damaged by wildfires. The company aims to plant 75,000 trees over the next five years, restoring 150,000 square meters of forest.

The initiative also includes a public-private forest restoration effort through the "Sangsang Forest" program, in which KT&G employees participate directly. The program is part of KT&G's ESG management activities and brings together employees and local communities to create new forest areas.

"This agreement is significant in that a company, a public institution and an international organization are joining forces for forest restoration and environmental conservation," said Lee Sang-hak, executive vice president of KT&G. "We will continue to work toward building a sustainable domestic forest ecosystem and putting ESG management into meaningful practice."
