Disney+ has confirmed a fall release for its original series "The Remarried Empress."
Based on the massively popular intellectual property of the same name, "The Remarried Empress" is a grand romance fantasy Sageuk drama in which Navier (played by Shin Min-a), empress of the Dongdae Empire, is served with divorce papers by Emperor Sovieshu (Ju Ji-hoon) — who has fallen for a runaway slave named Rasta (Lee Se-young) — and, rather than simply accepting the demand, counters by seeking approval to remarry Prince Heinrey (Lee Jong-suk) of the Western Kingdom.
The series boasts a star-studded cast led by Shin Min-a, Ju Ji-hoon, Lee Jong-suk and Lee Se-young, promising a distinctive romance fantasy world built around four characters navigating the intrigues of a fictional imperial court.
At last year's Disney+ Originals Preview event in Hong Kong, Shin said her decision to join the project was driven by curiosity. "The original webtoon received so much love, and I understand many people have high expectations for the series," she said. "I was also curious to see how the source material would be adapted into a drama series, and that's what drew me in."
Alongside the fall release announcement, a teaser poster has been unveiled, commanding attention with the solitary presence of Empress Navier standing alone at the center of a courtroom. Particularly striking is the tagline — "I accept the divorce. And I demand approval to remarry" — already one of the work's most iconic lines, and a signal of the upheaval to come.
Faced with her husband's betrayal and a forced divorce, Navier refuses to crumble, instead making the resolute choice to forge her own path. Shin, who projects effortless poise and a strong screen presence, is set to bring Navier's dignity and leadership to vivid life through her signature elegant charisma and emotionally layered performance.
"The Remarried Empress" will be available on Disney+ this fall.
