The Kospi fell below the 6,000 mark on Tuesday.
According to Korea Exchange, the Kospi stood at 5,999.88 as of 3:11 p.m. Tuesday, down 755.87 points, or 11.19 percent, from the previous session.
Samsung Electronics fell 13.4 percent to 219,750 won ($150), while SK Hynix dropped 14.3 percent to 1.55 million won.
