Trump says Board of Peace reached 'historic' Hamas disarmament deal

US President Donald Trump said Thursday (local time) that Hamas, the Iran-aligned Palestinian militant group, had agreed to full disarmament.

In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote: "Friday — the Board of Peace has reached a historic agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and all other armed factions in Gaza. This is a monumental step toward lasting peace and security."

The Board of Peace is the top decision-making body responsible for maintaining peace and overseeing reconstruction in Gaza, established under Trump's initiative.

Hamas had not yet responded to the announcement. The group has consistently refused to accept disarmament, though it officially announced the dissolution of its two-decade-old governing body in Gaza on July 6.

If Hamas has agreed to disarm, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) — the new governing body tasked with security and administration in the territory — would secure full administrative authority, potentially easing the path toward the peace, stability and reconstruction Trump has envisioned for Gaza.

"This agreement is a decisive step toward Gaza finally coming under the governance of a new Palestinian government, which will work closely with the Board of Peace to help the Palestinian people," Trump wrote. "At the same time, Israel will gain the security it deserves as Gaza is no longer used as a base for terrorist attacks."

Trump added that once disarmament is complete, Israeli forces will withdraw, and an international stabilization force will work alongside a new Palestinian police force to ensure the safety of Gaza's residents and neighboring countries.
