Father in his 20s arrested on charges of abusing 5-year-old daughter

A man in his 20s has been arrested on charges of abusing his 5-year-old daughter in Dongducheon, Gyeonggi Province.

The Dongducheon Police Station said Monday it had arrested the man, identified only as A, on charges of child abuse under the Child Welfare Act and is investigating the case.

A is suspected of abusing his biological daughter, a 5-year-old girl identified as B.

At around 2 a.m. Monday, police received a report from a residence in Saengyeon-dong, Dongducheon, that a child appeared to have been subjected to domestic violence.

Officers found B at the scene with multiple bruises across her body. She received emergency treatment before being transported to a hospital.

B had been living with her biological father, A, and a stepmother, police said.

Police said they arrested A after determining, based on the extent of B's injuries, that he had abused her.

Investigators are questioning A about the specific circumstances of the alleged abuse and his motive.
