Simmons secures top Dermatest rating for entire Beautyrest lineup

Simmons announced Monday that its entire Beautyrest mattress lineup has received the "Excellent" rating — the highest grade awarded by Dermatest, a German dermatological testing institute.

Earlier, all products in the premium vegan mattress line N32 received the same rating in August last year, followed by the top-tier Beautyrest Black line in February this year. The company said the certifications mean its full range of residential mattresses has now been recognized for skin safety.

Dermatest is a German testing body staffed by dermatologists, biologists and food chemists who evaluate whether products that come into contact with skin cause irritation, and award a certification mark to those that meet the required standards.

Simmons said the latest round of testing included patch tests on subjects with atopic skin — one of the most demanding conditions among sensitive skin types — and that the products were recognized as low-irritation.

In addition to the Dermatest Excellent rating, Simmons holds certifications for radon and thoron safety, flame-retardant mattress standards, an eco-friendly certification from the Ministry of Climate, Environment and Energy, and UL Greenguard Gold certification.

The broader mattress industry has been stepping up efforts to secure safety and environmental certifications as consumers increasingly factor those criteria — alongside cushioning and materials — into their purchasing decisions. Because mattresses remain in prolonged contact with the body and are used for years after a single purchase, the ability to objectively demonstrate safety in areas such as harmful substance emissions, flame resistance and skin irritation is emerging as a key competitive differentiator.

"A mattress is a lifestyle product that comes into direct contact with the skin for seven to eight hours a day, so securing skin safety alongside comfort is essential," a Simmons official said. "We will continue working to create a healthy and comfortable sleep environment for our customers."
