Seoul Land is holding a special Liberation Day event called "Searching for Independence Activists" on Saturday to honor the sacrifices of those who fought for Korea's independence.
The promotion pays tribute to 10 prominent independence fighters who dedicated their lives to Korea's liberation. Visitors whose names match any of the 10 — Kim Gu, Ahn Jung-geun, Yun Bong-gil, Yu Gwan-sun, Ahn Chang-ho, Lee Bong-chang, Sin Chae-ho, Park Eun-sik, Hong Beom-do and Kim Jwa-jin — will receive free admission on Liberation Day. Up to three companions of a qualifying visitor will also receive a 50 percent discount on admission.
Those wishing to participate must present a government-issued ID at the on-site ticket booth on Saturday to confirm that their name matches one of the 10 independence fighters.
Alongside the Liberation Day event, the park is running a range of summer programs. The water performance "Water Wars: Pirates" pits audience members against performers in a water gun battle, and the large water play facility Kraken Island is also in operation.
A Korean-style horror program, "Ghost Playground," blends traditional Korean spirits with play culture. Visitors can take part in "Ghost Singing Contest," where they mingle with costumed ghosts, join a K-pop random play dance, and experience "Give Me Back My Leg," a reimagining of a classic Korean folk horror tale.
The newly renovated Baengnirhong Garden — transformed from the former Romantic Garden — features photo spots set against crepe myrtle trees and pink blooms. After dark, the park stages a fireworks show combining music, flames, lasers and special effects.
Customers paying with Shinhan Card or BC Card can purchase an all-day pass, including one companion, for 21,900 won ($15), and a night pass for 19,900 won. Standing discounts are also available for affiliated card holders, telecom subscribers, birthday visitors and preschool children.
"For Liberation Day, we have prepared a special event that invites visitors to think again of the independence activists who dedicated themselves to our nation's freedom," a Seoul Land official said. "We hope everyone will create a special final memory of summer vacation by enjoying Seoul Land's diverse summer offerings — the Liberation Day event, water content, the Korean horror special, Baengnirhong Garden and the fireworks show."
