Hanwha Investment staff and families toss EM mud balls to clean up Saetgang stream

Hanwha Investment announced Thursday that it had carried out an eco-friendly corporate social responsibility campaign in which employees and their families made and tossed EM (Effective Micro-Organisms) mud balls into a local stream.

Employees and their families gathered at Yeouido Saetgang Ecological Park in Seoul on Aug. 6, where they shaped EM mud balls by hand and threw them into the Saetgang stream to help improve water quality. The group also conducted a cleanup of the surrounding ecological park.

EM mud balls are made by mixing beneficial micro-organisms into red clay, fermenting the mixture for two weeks and shaping it into balls. When thrown into a polluted waterway, they help improve water quality and eliminate foul odors.

Hanwha Investment has been steadily expanding corporate social responsibility activities that employees can take part in alongside their families.

In June, employees and their families took part in a tomato-sharing volunteer drive, harvesting, sorting and packaging 860 kilograms of cherry tomatoes at a smart farm that supports job creation and self-reliance for people with disabilities. The tomatoes were delivered to free meal centers and welfare facilities in the local community.

"Environmental protection is an important social responsibility that companies must practice on an ongoing basis," said Kim Do-hyeong, head of the innovation support division at Hanwha Investment. "We will continue to expand a variety of social contribution activities that allow employees and their families to participate together and grow alongside the local community."

Hanwha Investment will also hold a ticket event on Sept. 5 at Yeouido Han River Park in Seoul for the "Seoul International Fireworks Festival 2026 with Hanwha," an autumn fixture that draws more than 1 million visitors each year. Thirty individual customers who apply through the Hanwha Investment mobile trading system will be selected by lottery to receive two festival admission tickets each. Additional prizes — including Hanwha Eagles merchandise, Daiso gift vouchers and A Twosome Place gift vouchers — will also be awarded by lottery.
