SK Ecoplant creates AI data center division to sharpen infrastructure push

SK Ecoplant has established a new AI data center division as it accelerates its push into semiconductor and AI infrastructure. The move consolidates previously scattered business, technology, design, procurement and construction (EPC) units to meet surging demand and sharpen its competitiveness in winning orders.

The company announced Thursday that it had carried out an organizational restructuring to create the new division. The reorganization aims to respond to rapidly growing demand for AI data center construction while bringing together related teams and functions under one roof to strengthen its position as an AI infrastructure solutions provider.

AI data centers require higher power density and more complex systems than conventional buildings, making it difficult to compete on construction capability alone, the company said. SK Ecoplant is raising the quality of its mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) design work and developing a standardized AI data center model to ensure consistent quality.

Under the restructuring, the company's AI data center business, technology and EPC units have been consolidated under the new division. The aim is to improve project execution efficiency, internalize design capabilities and standardize construction methods — building a framework capable of handling multiple AI data center projects at once.

SK Group is also accelerating data center investment in line with growing global AI demand. Plans call for building 15 GW of AI data center capacity at key locations nationwide, including an Ulsan project with Amazon Web Services in which SK Ecoplant is participating.

SK Ecoplant is also expanding its semiconductor and AI data center capabilities in line with the group's "AI full-stack" strategy — an approach that integrates every layer needed to deliver AI services, from infrastructure and hardware to platform.

The company plans to expand its role in EPC and infrastructure across semiconductor materials, fabrication factories and AI data centers, using that broader footprint to build a stronger pipeline of future AI data center orders.

"We will work to build a sustainable growth foundation centered on advanced industries such as semiconductors and AI data centers," a company official said.
