Seocho-gu District Mayor Jeon Seong-su has launched a new round of open communication with Seoul Metropolitan Council members, beginning with a policy meeting.
Jeon held the first policy meeting of the ninth elected term with council members representing the district, aiming to build consensus on key local issues and strengthen cooperation for securing Seoul city budget allocations.
Jeon has built a reputation as a district mayor who communicates closely not only with residents but also with district and city council members, guided by what he describes as a humble approach to leadership.
The meeting took place Friday at the main conference room on the fifth floor of the district office, with Jeon joined by Seoul Metropolitan Council members Lee Suk-ja, Lee Hyo-jin and Kim Ji-hun.
The gathering was organized to build shared understanding on major district issues and discuss ways to cooperate on the smooth advancement of large-scale long-pending projects.
The district shared progress updates on seven major initiatives: a renovation of the Banpo Sports Complex into a multipurpose athletic facility, activation of the Seocho AI Convergence Technology hub, construction of the Seocho Multiplex Welfare Town, underground routing of the Gyeongbu arterial road and Banpo-daero, mixed-use redevelopment of the Seoul Express Bus Terminal, the Isu-Gwacheon combined tunnel, and a deep underground rainwater drainage tunnel near Gangnam Station.
The district particularly asked the council members to pay close attention and lend support to ensure the large-scale, long-term projects proceed without disruption.
With the Seoul Metropolitan Government's second supplementary budget review approaching, the two sides agreed to work together to secure funding for local priority projects.
The district asked the council members to actively support the inclusion of 20.2 billion won ($14.3 million) across seven projects in the supplementary budget: a new rainwater pump station in Yangjae-dong, support for the Seocho Music Culture District, maintenance of the Express Bus Terminal and Sevit tourism special zones, installation of new elevators along Banpo-daero, and expansion and relocation of the Seorae Global Village Center.
The attending council members said they would continue to communicate closely with the district and gather residents' opinions through their legislative work, pledging to consult with the district on matters requiring improvement and to provide ongoing support for resolving local issues.
"In the ninth elected term as well, we will put residents' happiness first and work in close coordination with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Metropolitan Council to push forward key projects with momentum," Jeon said. "We will attend carefully to each and every local issue and join forces to turn them into tangible results."
