North Gyeongsang council education panel calls for real-world impact of 2030 education overhaul

The North Gyeongsang Provincial Council's education committee attended the "North Gyeongsang Education 2030 Grand Transformation Vision Proclamation" ceremony Thursday at the grand performance hall of the North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education Cultural Center in Pohang.

The event was organized to share the vision and policy direction for North Gyeongsang education from 2027 to 2030 with the broader education community and build consensus. Students, parents, teachers, task force members and local residents all took part.

The ceremony unfolded under the theme "Questions for 2030 — North Gyeongsang Education's Promise," featuring a video titled "Twelve Years of One Child," a progress report called "From Plan to Action" and the formal proclamation of the North Gyeongsang Education 2030 Grand Transformation vision.

That was followed by a session called "Answer Us, 2030: North Gyeongsang Education's Promise," in which students, teachers and parents participated, along with a digital joint signing ceremony by representatives of the education community.

Committee Chairman Jeong Han-seok said the newly presented vision must translate into tangible change at schools across the province.

He also said it was important to chart a new course for North Gyeongsang education amid rapidly shifting conditions — including the spread of AI, a declining school-age population and the threat of regional depopulation.

"The education committee will closely review ways to provide legislative support — including ordinances and budget measures — to ensure the North Gyeongsang Education 2030 Grand Transformation leads to real change on the ground," Jeong said.
