Rep. Seo Young-seok has been elected the new Gyeonggi Province chapter chair of the Democratic Party of Korea.
The Democratic Party's Gyeonggi Province chapter held its regular party convention Sunday at the indoor gymnasium of Suwon General Stadium, where members chose Seo, who represents the Bucheon-gap constituency, as the new chapter chair.
Seo ran unopposed and won with 68.07 percent approval in a yes-or-no vote.
In his acceptance speech, Seo said he would take the mandate seriously. "Because this trust was given to me without competition by the 1.2 million Gyeonggi Party members, I will carry it with even greater weight," he said. "I will solemnly accept the order to make the Democratic Party stronger, place the Gyeonggi chapter at the center of victory, and turn into reality a party where members are the true owners."
He went on to say the chapter's goals were clear. "Our objective is victory in the 2028 general election and recapturing power in 2030, and the starting point of that victory is Gyeonggi Province — home to the most citizens, the most local committees, and the most fiercely contested battleground of public sentiment," he said.
