Guro-gu Launches Summer Cultural Experiences at 'Darak' Community Spaces!

Guro-gu, led by District Mayor Jang In-hong, is running August programs at its Darak cultural spaces to give residents a nearby venue for cultural activities during the summer heat.

The Darak cultural spaces are multipurpose community venues open to all residents, operating at two locations — Sindobrim and Oryu-dong. Each site offers performances, exhibitions, cultural workshops, film screenings, and areas for study, reading and relaxation.

This year's programming features seasonal hands-on activities, eco-friendly projects, family-oriented experiences and cooking workshops.

The August workshops run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. — on Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Oryu-dong Darak and on Aug. 29 at the Sindobrim Darak. Both locations will offer two activities: a fresh apple mint ade-making session and a summer green-forest hanging ball craft.

The ade-making workshop lets participants create their own summer drinks using seasonal fruit and sparkling water. The hanging ball craft uses plants to make decorative hanging ornaments for the home. The two workshops run simultaneously, each taking about 30 minutes, and participants may choose whichever they prefer.

The workshops are open to anyone aged 5 and older; children must be accompanied by a guardian. The participation fee is 5,000 won per activity, which goes toward materials costs.

Registration opened Wednesday, Aug. 12, on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents can sign up by visiting either Darak location in person or by calling the Oryu-dong Darak or Sindobrim Darak directly.

"I hope residents will enjoy quality time with their families at a cultural space close to home," District Mayor Jang said. "We will continue to reflect residents' feedback and expand opportunities for people to experience culture in their everyday lives by offering a variety of workshops."
