Jennie's agency vows 'no leniency' as explicit video spreads online

Amid the rapid spread of a video appearing to show Blackpink member Jennie in a state of undress, her agency said it will pursue legal action and show "no leniency."

OA Entertainment said Tuesday it has been continuously monitoring online communities and social media platforms and has identified ongoing violations against Jennie, including the spread of baseless defamatory claims and false information, as well as the malicious editing and manipulation of photos and videos and the posting of content that invades her privacy and personal rights.

The agency said it is working with legal counsel to monitor related posts and accounts and gather evidence, and that civil and criminal proceedings are underway for serious cases of rights violations.

It said it will "actively take all necessary legal measures" against anyone who maliciously edits or manipulates images of the artist's physical appearance, repeatedly posts or reposts specific photos or video clips, or combines such content with insulting language or false information.

Jennie had performed Friday at the 2026 Summer Sonic Tokyo festival at Mountain Stage in Tokyo. After the show, a video from the performance spread rapidly on social media. The clip appeared to show a wardrobe malfunction on stage, triggering widespread controversy.

It has not been confirmed whether the video is authentic or fabricated. It may show a genuine wardrobe incident involving Jennie, but the possibility that it was manipulated using AI technology has also been raised.

If the video turns out to be a deepfake, those responsible could face criminal punishment.

Under Article 14 of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, anyone who edits, composites or manipulates content with the intent to distribute false video material faces up to seven years in prison or a fine of up to 50 million won ($35,300).

Anyone who views, possesses, purchases or stores such material knowing it to be false also faces up to three years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million won.
