Seocho-gu District Mayor Jeon Seong-su made the remarks as he announced the opening of a new senior playground at Jandi Children's Park in Yangjaedong (205-4 Yangjaedong), designed to support the health and leisure of older residents.
The district was selected for the Seoul Metropolitan Government's senior playground development program, which aims to promote the physical and mental well-being of elderly residents who find outdoor activity difficult in an era of rapid population aging. Ground was broken in June. The district chose Jandi Children's Park — which already draws heavy senior foot traffic due to a senior center on its grounds — and fitted it with exercise equipment tailored to older users' physical needs and a circular walking path, giving residents a convenient space to stay active and enjoy leisure close to home.
The redesign preserves the park's original children's play areas while weaving in rest and exercise zones for seniors, remaking the site as an intergenerational park where children and older residents can use the space side by side. The district hopes the park will become a community hub where residents of all ages can enjoy themselves and interact naturally across generations.
The district plans to manage the park closely so residents can use its facilities safely and conveniently, and to operate it as an open space where everyone from children to seniors can spend time together.
"I hope the new senior playground at Jandi Children's Park becomes a space that supports healthy daily routines and vibrant leisure for our older residents," District Mayor Jeon said. "We will keep expanding intergenerational spaces where the laughter of children and the smiles of seniors come together, building a Seocho where every generation can be happy."
