Organizers open press center for 2026 Daegu World Masters Athletics Championships

The organizing committee for the 2026 Daegu World Masters Athletics Championships announced Wednesday that it will operate a press center throughout the competition to support media coverage and provide timely, accurate information to domestic and international journalists.

The press center serves as a communications hub connecting the competition venue with media outlets at home and abroad. It will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Wednesday through Sept. 3, except on Aug. 26 and Aug. 31, which are non-competition days.

To facilitate smooth coverage, the organizing committee will distribute press releases and key event information, provide guidance on reporting logistics, and assist with interviews of athletes and competition officials.

Competition results will be available in real time through the official event website, and major announcements will be relayed promptly.

The center will also provide media materials including live-streamed video and photographs of marquee events. Interpretation services will be available as needed to help foreign journalists report and communicate effectively.

Athlete interviews will be conducted in the mixed zone and interview zone following each event. Designated press seating, a mixed zone and an interview zone will all be provided, while competition operation areas and restricted zones will be off-limits to protect athlete safety and ensure smooth event management.

About 150 journalists have registered to cover the championships — roughly 130 from domestic outlets and about 20 from foreign media. Those who pre-registered may collect their press credentials on-site after presenting identification.

Journalists who did not pre-register may visit the accreditation center, complete the registration process and receive their press cards there.

Staff from the organizing committee and the Daegu city government's public affairs office will be on hand at the press center to respond promptly to media inquiries and requests.

Jin Gi-hun, secretary-general of the organizing committee, said the center would "actively support domestic and international media so they can deliver diverse news from the championships quickly and accurately in a comfortable environment," adding that the event aims to share the passion of Daegu and world masters athletics with audiences around the globe.
