Hanul Unit 4 reactor shuts down automatically; no radioactive release detected

The reactor at Hanul Unit 4 in Uljin, North Gyeongsang Province, automatically shut down Wednesday, prompting the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission to launch an investigation.

The commission said it received a report from Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power at around 8:50 a.m. Wednesday that Hanul Unit 4 had automatically shut down.

The reactor is currently stable, with no abnormal alerts from radiation monitors and no external release of radioactive material detected.

The commission is inspecting safety conditions at the site through its Hanul regional office and plans to dispatch an investigation team of experts from the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety.
