Gyeonggi Province cracks down on illegal vendors at summer resorts, finding 23 violations

Gyeonggi Province's Special Judicial Police Unit announced Wednesday that a crackdown on illegal activity at summer resorts — including valleys and streams — had uncovered 23 violations.

The operation ran for 12 days from July 20 to July 31, targeting resorts along valleys and waterways that see heavy visitor traffic during the summer holiday season. Authorities said the drive aimed to stop repeat offenses involving unauthorized occupation of public land and unregistered business operations, and to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for residents.

The violations included three cases of unauthorized occupation of riverbed land, 13 cases of operating an unregistered restaurant or failing to report changes to a business's floor area, two cases of running an unregistered recreational water-facility business, and five cases involving the installation of unlicensed structures or illegal land-grading within development-restricted zones.

One establishment was caught operating a restaurant on riverbed land without authorization from the relevant authorities, having erected temporary structures and platform beds on the site.

A second business was found cooking and selling food to the general public without registering as a food-service operator, despite having a fully equipped kitchen. A third was caught running water slides and a swimming pool without the required registration.

A fourth establishment was caught operating a restaurant inside a development-restricted zone, having set up tents and platform beds without obtaining the necessary permits.

Gyeonggi Province said it will process the violations in accordance with relevant laws and plans to continue regular inspections and follow-up management to prevent illegal activity from recurring at valleys and streams.
