Yangcheon-gu will host the "2026 Second-Half Haewuri Sharing Market" at Yangcheon Park in September and October, giving residents a chance to trade and donate secondhand goods while practicing eco-friendly living.
The Haewuri Sharing Market is a community-driven resource-circulation event where residents buy, sell or give away clothing, books, toys and household items they no longer use, breathing new life into goods that might otherwise go to waste.
This year, the district is switching from a first-come, first-served system to a computerized random lottery to give all interested residents an equal shot at securing a seller's spot. The market has steadily grown into one of Yangcheon-gu's signature eco-friendly events — about 4,450 people took part across five markets last year, and roughly 2,400 residents from 300 households joined in the first half of this year alone.
The second-half markets run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Yangcheon Park on Sept. 19 and Oct. 17. A wide range of reusable secondhand items will be available, and anyone can drop by without prior registration.
Residents who want to sell goods must apply in advance. Applications for the September market open Monday, Aug. 24 and close Friday, Aug. 28; for the October market, the window runs from Sept. 21 to Sept. 30. Residents can apply through the integrated reservation portal on the Yangcheon-gu district office website or in person at the sanitation administration division on the sixth floor of the district office. A computerized lottery will select 100 seller households from all applicants; any no-shows on the day will open spots for walk-in standby participants.
The market will also feature a range of programs to encourage everyday eco-friendly habits. The "Pack Moa Roll" initiative lets visitors exchange clean, unfolded and dried paper cartons — 500 grams at a time — for one roll of toilet paper, promoting proper separation and recycling of paper carton waste.
New to the second-half markets this year, a "Tumbler Day" event will offer free beverages to visitors who bring their own reusable cups, encouraging residents to cut down on disposable cup use.
The district will also promote the use of shopping bags and paper bags to reduce unnecessary single-use waste. A free secondhand goods booth will let residents donate unwanted items or take home things they need at no charge. Any reusable goods left over after the event will be donated to the Yangcheon Local Self-Sufficiency Center to keep the spirit of sharing alive.
"The Haewuri Sharing Market goes beyond simply sharing unused belongings with neighbors — it is an eco-friendly festival where residents can directly experience and practice resource recycling and reducing single-use items," district mayor Lee Gi-jae said. "I hope families will come out together this autumn, enjoy the market, and share in the values of generosity and resource circulation."
