Coupang Inc said it held a vehicle handover ceremony at the Sinan-gun Family Center on Aug. 19, donating a "Coupang Onmaeum Dream Car" to the Sinan-gun Welfare Foundation.
Coupang Inc has been running a mobile hair and beauty service for residents of remote island communities in Sinan-gun. The island setting made it difficult to transport equipment and supplies, limiting the service's reach. To extend the program to more residents, the company provided a vehicle along with funding to cover operating costs.
The vehicle moved to Byeongpungdo in Jeungdo-myeon, Sinan-gun, on Thursday and was put to use for hair and beauty volunteer work the same day. About 70 residents from Byeongpungdo, Daegijeomdо, Sogijeomdо and Soakdo gathered at the Byeongpungdo Maendrami Center. They received haircuts, coloring, perms, makeup services, commemorative photo sessions, basic health screenings and traditional Korean medicine consultations. Participants were also served samgyetang.
"We hope this volunteer effort becomes an opportunity to share warmth with residents and strengthen the sense of community in the region," a Coupang Inc corporate social responsibility official said.
