Lee Tae-hoon shares second place at LIV Golf Indianapolis opener, one stroke off lead

Lee Tae-hoon (Canada) fired a 7-under-par round on the opening day of LIV Golf Indianapolis to share second place.

Playing Thursday (local time) at The Club at Chatham Hills (par 70) in Westfield, Indiana, Lee carded seven birdies against no bogeys for a 63 to tie with Cameron Smith (Australia) for second. He sits one stroke behind leader Laurie Canter (England), who shot an 8-under 62.

In the shotgun-start round, Lee built his score on consistent driving and precise iron play. Starting on the fifth hole, he picked up his first birdie at the seventh, added two more at the 10th and 14th, then strung together three consecutive birdies from the 17th through the first hole before adding a seventh birdie at the third.

Lee earned his LIV Golf spot as a wildcard after winning the LIV Golf Promotion event ahead of the 2026 season. He came close to a title at LIV Golf Singapore in March, reaching a playoff before missing a short par putt that handed the trophy to Bryson DeChambeau (United States).

Joaquin Niemann (Chile), who claimed his second win of the season at LIV Golf New York, shot a 6-under 64 to join Dustin Johnson (United States), Sergio Garcia (Spain) and Lee Westwood (England) in a tie for fourth.

Ahn Byeong-hun, captain of the Korean Golf Club team, opened with a 4-under 66 to sit in a tie for 13th. Song Young-han carded a 3-under 67 to share 25th alongside Jon Rahm (Spain) and Tyrrell Hatton (England). Moon Do-yeob and Kim Min-gyu both shot 1-under 69 to tie for 39th.
