Yongsan-gu District Mayor Kim Gyeong-dae attended a donation ceremony Thursday at the Yongsan Volunteer Center, lending his support to a children's kimchi-making charity event aimed at spreading a culture of sharing across the community.
The event was organized to give children a hands-on volunteer experience, helping them learn the value of sharing and consideration, while bringing together a local company and the community in a joint social contribution effort.
About 50 people took part, including 20 Josun Hotels & Resorts employees and 20 children. Under the guidance of the hotel's kimchi business team, participants made white kkakdugi — a variety of radish kimchi — and wrote handwritten letters to children at Hyesimwon, a local child welfare facility, reflecting on the meaning of giving.

The event was seen as particularly meaningful because it went beyond a simple goods donation. Children participated directly in the volunteer activity, naturally developing a sense of community and an understanding of service, while the company contributed through sponsorship and hands-on involvement — together helping to build a broader culture of cooperation and sharing in the community.
District Mayor Kim encouraged the children and Josun Hotels & Resorts employees at the ceremony and stressed the importance of companies and communities working together to put the spirit of sharing into practice.
"Because the children made this kimchi with their own hands as an act of giving, it will carry more warmth than ever," Kim said. "I hope this was a meaningful time for them to learn the value of a warm community through everyday life." He added that he would continue working to build "a warm Yongsan where businesses and the community come together to share and cooperate."
