The Gangnam-gu Council, led by Speaker Lee Jae-jin, participated Thursday afternoon in an air-raid civil defense evacuation drill and CPR training session at Gangnam Community Center, then visited the integrated wartime operations center at Gangnam District Office to observe the 2026 Eulji CPX and encourage staff on duty.
Taking part in the drill and observation were Speaker Lee Jae-jin, Deputy Speaker Kim Hyeon-jeong, Administrative Committee Chair Kang Hyeon-seop, Public Administration and Safety Committee Chair Lee In-seon, Economy and Urban Committee Chair Song Yeong-gwang, and council members Bok Jin-gyeong, Lee Dong-ho, Lee Sang-ae, Kim Jin-gyeong, Kim Yun-hui, Han Seong-sun, Lee Jong-won (District Na), Kim Yeong-min, Yeom Hui-ok, Hwang Tae-hyeon, Lee Jong-won (District Ma) and No Mi-jin.
At Gangnam Community Center, the council members joined the air-raid evacuation drill, familiarizing themselves with emergency evacuation procedures and protocols, as well as CPR techniques and emergency response methods.
Rather than observing from the sidelines, the members took part directly in the drills and training exercises, using the session to assess their first-response capabilities in a real emergency.
After completing the drill, the members moved to the integrated wartime operations center at Gangnam District Office, where they received briefings on the progress of the Eulji CPX and the state of emergency preparedness. They expressed gratitude to staff and officials from related agencies working on-site to prepare for national emergencies.
They then attended a military equipment exhibition in the small parking lot of Gangnam District Office, guided by Lt. Col. Lee Yong-hui, battalion commander of the 3rd Battalion, 6019th Unit of the 52nd Infantry Division, responsible for the local defense of Gangnam-gu. The members examined and tried out the military's advanced modernized equipment, supplies, gear and combat rations.
This year's Eulji CPX runs Aug. 18 through Friday — four days of continuous day-and-night exercises — simulating real crisis scenarios to drill sector-by-sector emergency response procedures for national emergencies including security threats and disasters, and to verify the cooperative framework among civilian, government and military agencies.
"The most powerful shield against security threats that could come at any moment is our thorough preparation and training," Speaker Lee said. "The same intensity as real combat and a systematic response will serve as the solid foundation that protects Gangnam-gu's security." He added that the council would make the safety of residents its top priority, work to build a safety net through a standing training system, and spare no administrative support or budget toward that end.
