The Gwon Jingyu Atelier in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, is hosting Shin Hye-jin's solo exhibition "INTERSTANCE: Gaps in Time" through Aug. 30. Selected as a resident artist at the Gwon Jingyu Atelier creative residency program in 2026, Shin uses old books as her primary material to translate ideas about time and space into sculpture.
The exhibition presents new works completed through a painstaking process of trimming the edges of pages — focusing on sections where the text of antique books remains legible — then repeatedly dismantling and reassembling them. The resulting layers of stacked paper evoke the growth rings of a tree, bearing witness to memories and traces accumulated over long stretches of time.
