Jongno-gu (district mayor Yoo Chan-jong) will run a special arts program, "Autumn Night, Art Walk," from Sept. 4 to 18 in the Cheongun-hyoja-dong area, centered on the Jongno-gu-run Park No-su Museum of Art at 34 Okin 1-gil. The program combines expert lectures with docent-guided exhibition visits.
The program traces the major shifts in Korean art since liberation and examines the art-historical significance of painter Park No-su's work within that broader context.
Sessions will be held on three Thursdays — Sept. 4, 11 and 18 — and adults may sign up for any showing of their choosing.
Each lecture runs from 6:30 to 7:20 p.m. at Peace Books (5-1 Okin 3-gil), where docent Kim Ki-wan will guide participants through Park's paintings and the trajectory of Korean modern and contemporary art since liberation.
Participants then walk to the nearby Park No-su Museum of Art for a docent-led viewing of the 12th-anniversary commemorative exhibition, followed by free exploration until 8 p.m. Landscape paintings and still-life works encountered in the quiet, after-dark museum are expected to carry a different resonance than they do by day.
Registration is available online or by phone through the Jongno Cultural Foundation website. The participation fee is 10,000 won ($7) and includes an exhibition ticket and a beverage.
The 12th-anniversary exhibition "Sansu · Gyeongmul" (landscape and still life), on view through Dec. 6, illuminates Park's artistic world from the 1970s through the 2000s. Visitors can experience the artist's daily life and aesthetic sensibility through his personal collection, and a media art installation lets visitors see their own colored drawings come to life on screen.
"This will be a chance to encounter the artistic world of painter Park No-su in depth, in the tranquil setting of an autumn-night museum," district mayor Yoo said. "We will continue to offer a wide range of programs so that residents can enjoy high-quality culture and the arts in their everyday lives."
