Im Sung-jae misses Tour Championship for first time in 8 years; Kim Si-woo, Kim Joo-hyung advance

Im Sung-jae's bid for an eighth consecutive Tour Championship appearance fell short after he finished tied for 10th at the BMW Championship, the second event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, which carried a $20 million purse.

Im shot a 1-over-par 71 Monday (Korean Standard Time) at Bellerive Country Club (par 70) in St. Louis, Missouri, finishing at 8-under 272 for the tournament in a tie for 10th.

Im played even par and 1-over in the third and fourth rounds, respectively, as the leaderboard tightened, costing him the strokes he needed to reach the Tour Championship for an eighth straight year. He had climbed into a tie for fourth after a 6-under 64 in the second round, with his projected FedEx Cup ranking sitting at 28th at that point, but his struggles over the final two rounds ended his hopes.

Im needed to finish tied for sixth or better — or outright seventh — to secure a spot in the season finale, but early bogeys weighed on him and he could not recover.

He dropped a shot on the par-4 second hole after finding the water with his approach, then made back-to-back bogeys on the fifth and sixth holes — a three-putt on the par-4 fifth and a bunker miscue on the par-3 sixth.

Im holed his third chip from the rough around the green on the par-5 eighth for an eagle, but he traded a birdie and a bogey over the back nine and could not climb the leaderboard.

Kim Joo-hyung and Kim Si-woo both secured spots in the Tour Championship by finishing inside the top 30 of the FedEx Cup standings. Kim Joo-hyung carded a 2-under 68 on the final day — three birdies against one bogey — to finish at 3-under 277 in a tie for 28th. His FedEx Cup ranking slipped three spots from 26th to 29th, but he qualified for the season finale for the first time in three years.

Kim Si-woo also finished in a tie for 33rd at 2-under 278, posting a 1-under round with three birdies and two bogeys, but his FedEx Cup ranking of fifth was more than enough to advance. It will be his third Tour Championship appearance, following trips in 2016 and 2023.

Kim Si-woo will receive $5.4 million as a bonus for finishing fifth in the FedEx Cup standings. Kim Joo-hyung, ranked 29th, will collect $485,000, while Im, who finished 37th, will receive $313,000.

Wyndham Clark of the United States claimed the title, shooting an even-par 70 on the final day — three birdies and three bogeys — to finish at 17-under 263 and edge runner-up Patrick Cantlay, also of the United States, by three strokes. Clark surrendered a share of the lead after making three bogeys through the 10th hole, but he birdied three consecutive holes from the 16th through the 18th to pull away and win comfortably.

World No. 2 Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland finished alone in third at 13-under 267 after posting a 1-under round. World No. 1 and FedEx Cup points leader Scottie Scheffler of the United States shot a 2-under 68 to finish at 7-under 273, tying for 12th.

Min Woo Lee, the Australian of Korean descent, finished tied for 47th at 2-over 282 but qualified for his first career Tour Championship by virtue of his 21st-place standing in the FedEx Cup rankings.
