Hanwha Hotel announced Monday that all of its facilities have received ISO 45001 certification, the international standard for occupational health and safety management systems.
ISO 45001 is a standard issued by the International Organization for Standardization to companies that maintain safe working environments. Hanwha Hotel began inspections across its entire portfolio — including its headquarters, 10 resorts and two hotels nationwide — in January and completed the certification process within six months.
Through facility-specific safety management and systematic operations, the company has cut its annual accident count by 83 percent over the past three years.
Belvedere in Geoje conducts regular drills to prepare for natural disasters such as floods and storm damage. Hanwha Resort Sanjeong Lake, located in a landslide-prone area, consistently runs simulated exercises based on soil-runoff scenarios. The company is also working to upgrade its facility maintenance framework, hold regular drills and special training sessions, and strengthen communication channels with workers.
Risk assessments have been expanded from the legally required once a year to four times a year. The company has also developed its own integrated management system to transparently track everything from hazard identification to the implementation of corrective measures. Safety protections now extend to contractors' workers as well, and the company is working to build an organizational culture in which safety is managed proactively.
Hanwha Hotel has also received consecutive certifications as an outstanding risk-assessment facility from the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency at four sites, including those in Yeosu and Jeju. The company aims to extend the certification to its remaining facilities by next year, completing a company-wide designation.
"This recognition affirms that our safety management framework meets international standards," a Hanwha Hotel official said. "We will make the safety of both our customers and employees our top priority through a prevention-focused management system."
