Singer Im Young-woong donates W200m to flood victims in Geoje and Tongyeong

Singer Im Young-woong has drawn wide attention for donating to flood victims in southern South Korea hit hard by heavy rainfall.

The Community Chest of Korea announced Monday that Im, together with his agency Mulgogimusic, donated 200 million won ($144,000) under the name of his fan club "Yeongung Sidae" to support residents affected by the recent torrential rains in the south.

The funds will be channeled through the Community Chest of Korea's "2026 Heavy Rain Damage Special Fundraising Campaign" to provide emergency relief, temporary housing support and recovery assistance to flood victims in South Gyeongsang Province, including Geoje and Tongyeong. The two cities and surrounding areas suffered widespread flooding of homes and roads in the downpours.

Im said the donation reflects his concern for neighbors living through anxious days after the sudden rains, and his hope that they can return to their daily lives as soon as possible.

Since 2021, Im has donated consistently — on his birthday, during holidays, and whenever natural disasters strike. Including this latest contribution, his cumulative donations through the Community Chest of Korea have reached approximately 2.5 billion won. Adding the 200 million won he donated directly to Korea University Medical Center earlier this year to cover medical costs for low-income patients, his total giving comes to around 2.7 billion won.

His fans have joined in as well. During last year's wildfires in the Yeongnam region, Im and Mulgogimusic donated 400 million won for recovery and relief efforts, while the fan club "Yeongung Sidae" raised and donated an additional 600 million won through a voluntary campaign. In Geoje — one of the areas hit by the current flooding — the local chapter "Yeongung Sidae Geoje" also donated to a regional welfare foundation to mark Im's 10th debut anniversary. The sustained giving by both the singer and his fans shows a shared commitment to helping communities through social crises.

Im will hold a solo concert, "IM HERO — THE STADIUM 2," at the main stadium of Goyang Sports Complex in Gyeonggi Province from Sept. 4 to 6. He will then release a special digital album, "IM HERO 10," on Sept. 8.

Meanwhile, the Community Chest of Korea is running its "2026 Heavy Rain Damage Special Fundraising Campaign" through Sept. 15 to support flood-affected residents and communities in southern South Korea. Donations can be made through the organization's dedicated fundraising account or via online platforms including Naver Happy Bean, Kakao Together and Cherry.
