Ecopro HN to supply $15.2m greenhouse gas reduction systems to Idaho chipmaker

Ecopro HN said Monday it has signed a contract with Hoffman Construction, a US general construction and engineering firm, to supply large-capacity greenhouse gas reduction systems.

The deal is valued at about 21 billion won ($15.2 million), equivalent to roughly 15 percent of the company's sales last year. The supply period runs from this month through July 2027.

Hoffman Construction specializes in general construction and advanced manufacturing facility projects in the United States, with extensive experience building semiconductor and other high-tech industrial complexes.

The large-capacity greenhouse gas reduction systems, developed independently by Ecopro HN, treat perfluorocompounds (PFCs) generated during semiconductor manufacturing. PFCs carry a global warming potential thousands to tens of thousands of times higher than CO₂, making their reduction a key challenge for chipmakers pursuing carbon neutrality.

The systems use catalyst-based low-temperature decomposition technology to break down greenhouse gases at around 750 to 800 degrees Celsius — compared with 1,300 to 1,400 degrees Celsius for conventional thermal decomposition methods — cutting energy consumption by about 95 percent while achieving world-class removal efficiency.

Ecopro HN supplies the systems in line with the operational environments and regulatory standards of overseas facilities, expanding its customer base from domestic semiconductor sites to overseas ones.

"This order is the result of having our greenhouse gas reduction technology recognized by overseas chipmakers," a company official said. "In line with the growing trend of investment expansion at semiconductor production sites at home and abroad, we will continue to broaden our reach to overseas customers, including those in North America."

Meanwhile, Ecopro HN posted sales of 51.5 billion won and operating profit of 5.8 billion won in the second quarter of this year, with both figures rising quarter-on-quarter.
