Tangled power and telecommunications lines along Jogang-ro in Gimpo's Tongjin-eup will be moved underground as part of an ongoing city project.
Gimpo City announced Monday that it expects to complete the underground utility project covering a roughly 1,320-meter stretch between 61-5 and 146-3 Masong-ri, Tongjin-eup, in September.
The project site runs along a heavily trafficked road where existing utility poles and overhead lines have long been cited as eyesores that also restrict pedestrian movement.
The work involves burying power and telecommunications lines beneath the roadway and removing existing above-ground infrastructure.
Once undergrounding is complete, the removal of tangled overhead lines is expected to improve the streetscape and create a more comfortable environment for pedestrians and vehicles alike.
The project is also expected to reduce the risk of utility-related accidents during severe weather, particularly strong winds and heavy rain.
