Police name Kim Sang-su, 52, as suspect in Seongnam revenge killing of former partner

Police on Tuesday publicly identified Kim Sang-su, 52, as the suspect in the killing of a former partner in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, last month — a woman who had filed a stalking complaint against him.

The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency said it would post Kim's name, age and mugshot on its website for one month, from 9 a.m. Tuesday through 9 a.m. Sept. 24.

Kim is accused of stabbing and killing a woman in her 60s in Junwon-gu, Seongnam, at around 3 a.m. on July 5. The two had been in a relationship for four years before breaking up. Kim repeatedly approached the victim after the breakup, prompting her to file a stalking complaint against him. Police say he harbored a grudge over the complaint and killed her with a weapon he had prepared in advance.

Police applied charges under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes — specifically the provision on retaliatory killing — and referred Kim to prosecutors in custody on Wednesday.
