Man detained for filming women in changing room at Caribbean Bay also faces groping charge

A man in his 20s detained for allegedly sneaking into a women's changing room at a popular water park in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, and filming visitors without their consent is also under investigation for allegedly groping a woman in the water.

According to Yonhap, the Yongin Dongbu Police Station is investigating the suspect, identified only as A, on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes — specifically for filming with a camera and intruding into a public facility for sexual purposes — as well as on charges of indecent assault.

A, who is unemployed, is accused of sneaking into the women's changing room at Caribbean Bay, an Everland water park in Yongin, on two separate occasions — July 17 and July 30 — and secretly filming visitors as they changed clothes.

He allegedly disguised himself with an androgynous appearance, wearing a short-cut wig, sunglasses and a mask before carrying out the acts.

A drew suspicion from other visitors while wandering inside the women's changing room and fled when a staff member asked to see his identification.

Police launched an investigation following a report and arrested A on Friday, about 20 days later.

A also faces allegations that on Aug. 1 — two days after the second filming incident — he groped a woman in the wave pool at Caribbean Bay. The victim reported the incident on the spot, and A was apprehended by staff before police arrived and formally logged the case.

During his arrest, police seized a watch-shaped hidden camera, a mobile phone, a laptop and other storage devices, which are undergoing forensic analysis.

Multiple video clips of several minutes each were reportedly found stored on the devices. The two victims police have formally identified are visitors who witnessed A in the changing room on July 30. The full extent of the harm is expected to become clearer once forensic results are available.

Investigators have so far found no evidence of accomplices, collaborators or anyone who directed A. There is also no indication that any of the illegally filmed footage has been distributed.

A reportedly told police he filmed the footage out of curiosity and for personal viewing only, and that he had not shared it with anyone.
